At home with…Rosa Evans
What makes a house feel like home? In “At Home With…,” I explore this question with fellow business owners and public figures, uncovering the unique ways they shape their spaces. Through a shared set of questions, each guest reveals what’s important to them—from treasured items to thoughtful design choices that reflect their lives and values.
Today, I’m thrilled to feature The Hair Healer, Rosa Evans. Step inside as Rosa shares her style, her inspirations, and the details that make her home a true reflection of who she is…
The Hair Healer, Rosa Evans
Rosa Evans is a 30-something woman who retrained as a hairdresser to fulfil the creative dreams of her younger self. After spending over 10 years working in psychiatric care she came to appreciate the value of feeling good because you look good, and decided to combine her knowledge and experiences of mental health care into hairdressing.
Let’s get Rosa’s perspective on what makes a house a home…
Tell me a little bit about your home and who you share it with?
My home is a one- bedroom apartment, that is all mine. It’s my first and only space that has been truly mine since I moved in and I protect it will all I have because of that.
What is your favourite spot in your home and why?
The living room because it has a big window overlooking the garden which is south- facing so benefits from lots of sun (when we have it). It’s been the one room that has gone through so many changes since I moved in, yet always brings me a beautiful sense of calm when I’m in it.
Do you have any family heirlooms, or items inspired by your family history in your home?
I don’t have any heirlooms but I have lots of trinkets and ornaments that I’ve collected over the years that reflect the various parts of my heritage. My father was Malay and taught me the importance of respecting the deities of his Hindi religion, which is reflected in the mini altars I’ve setup around my home. Both my parents love music and their shared passion brings me lots of fond childhood memories, so I have decorated my walls with various memoirs of their favourite artists.
Do you have any quirky or unusual items?
Probably all of the above!
What is the oldest thing in your house?
My pops ashes. I never thought I would be the one to inherit them and the significance of that creates the paradoxical feeling that I get to look after him now.
What is the last thing you bought for your house?
A bale of bathroom towels - I recently redecorated.
What colours have you used in your home and what inspired those choices?
I’ve gone from varying shades of grey and white in every room, to bolder and more vibrant choices. Deep blues, greens and a completely black bedroom.
A well-designed home doesn’t only look great, it works on a practical level, and makes life easier for those who live there. Are there any life-enhancing, practical design features in your home?
I have lots of hidden storage that came ready- made when I moved in which I love. I hate clutter and mess so everything has a home and isn’t necessarily out on display.
If money were no object, where would you live and what would your home be like?
In a tropical climate. I would love to be in a tree- house themed home that would be simply furnished with only the necessary amenities. Surrounded by huge trees and lots of greenery, but not too far from a beach so I could indulge in the best of both worlds.
Nest and Flourish Interiors is known for creating accessible and inclusive spaces, can you describe what makes you feel welcome and comfortable in a space?
Space, plants and natural light. They all make me feel calm and grounded.
And what puts you off and makes you want to leave a space?
Clutter and no natural light. I’m not officially claustrophobic but if this how an environment is, I definitely am!
What makes a house a home in your eyes?
The people in it. Although I live on my own, I love that I have a space to share with people I love. I believe that the people make the energy of that space.
Tell me about your business, what you do, where you do it, who you help, and how people can contact you?
I am a hair healer, I help clients restore their hair health so that they can appreciate the natural aesthetic beauty that it brings. By offering a holistic approach to hair care, I allow my clients to value their whole picture; themselves, rather than just focusing on fixing the external aesthetic for a short term fix. I help women with all types of hair, whilst also specialising in naturally curly hair ranging from loose waves to tight curls.
I work from Ocale wellness studio in Queens Arcade, Leeds and I am contactable via social media and mobile/WhatsApp.
